You need a machine to run software without buying physical hardware. Amazon EC2 provides virtual machines in AWS, called instances. You select their computing capacity, starting operating-system image, storage and network access.

Use an instance when you need control of a server's operating system and software. Plan its lifetime as well as its setup: stopping a machine is different from terminating it, and disks or other associated resources can remain. Record where application data lives before deciding what to delete.

Try it in a lab

Plan a disposable instance with an explicit purpose, least-privilege identity and restricted access. Record its image, disks and network resources before changing it. If you provision it, verify shutdown and the complete cleanup procedure.

Check your understanding

Explain where application data lives and how you would recreate the instance without manual configuration. Demonstrate that the teardown inventory includes detached resources.

Before you start

Check current regional prices before starting the exercise. Do not expose an administrative port to the whole internet or reuse production credentials.

Read the official guide

Use the project documentation for version-specific commands and prerequisites. Record the versions and results of your own exercise. This page proposes a learning activity; it does not report a Kubedex test.

This is a newly written study reference at an address from the original Kubedex course outline. The original lesson was not recovered. It does not include course enrolment, progress tracking or a certificate.
