Project reference ↗

An online store needs more than pages showing products: it needs a catalog, a shopping cart, checkout and administration of the business behind them. Magento Open Source provides that commerce application and can be extended for a store's specific requirements. Running it on Kubernetes means operating its database, search and other dependencies alongside the website. This entry distinguishes the open-source application from Adobe Commerce rather than treating their features and support as interchangeable.

Current guidance

The Magento project repository identifies Magento Open Source and distinguishes it from Adobe Commerce. The recovered marketing text mixes those offerings, so determine the edition and exact release before selecting a chart, image or support contract. An old stable chart’s Kubernetes prerequisite is not a current application compatibility statement.

Follow the release-specific requirements linked from upstream. Adobe’s requirements tables distinguish deployment environments and tested combinations of PHP, database, search, cache and messaging services; they can include preview releases as well as published ones. Do not assemble arbitrary newest versions of each dependency or infer a released application version from a table heading alone.

Review extensions, payment integrations, scheduled jobs, indexing and media storage as part of migration. Rehearse checkout, refunds, search and background processing against isolated test services, and preserve a consistent database/media backup before schema changes. Changing a container image cannot by itself migrate commerce data or certify a payment integration. This guidance is a dependency and recovery review, not an installation test or a blanket feature comparison between editions.
