Applications that share large working datasets may need a coordinated memory-based data layer rather than separate caches inside each process. Terracotta provides distributed in-memory data-management products for those needs. This historical entry describes Terracotta DB, while current IBM chart material targets BigMemory Max. Those related names do not establish interchangeable storage or client behavior. Identify the exact product and version first, especially where the stored contents are authoritative rather than disposable copies of data held elsewhere.

Current guidance

The recovered article describes Software AG-era Terracotta DB and in-memory data management. Current IBM webMethods chart material provides a Terracotta BigMemory Max deployment with server, management and operator components. These related names do not establish that an old Terracotta DB dataset or client can be moved directly into that package; identify the licensed product, server generation and client API first.

The chart README explicitly calls its templates a starting point requiring local customization. It warns that Kubernetes pod and volume reassignment can conflict with Terracotta server lifecycle and invalidated on-disk data, especially in active/passive, multi-stripe configurations. Replicas and persistent volumes therefore need product-aware operating procedures rather than generic StatefulSet assumptions.

For adoption or migration, confirm entitlement, image access, security settings and the supported server/client combination with the vendor documentation for that exact product. Rehearse activation, failover, backup recovery and scaling with representative cache or dataset contents. Distinguish disposable caches from authoritative state and retain a recovery copy before changing topology. Do not infer a safe rolling upgrade or storage adoption procedure merely because Helm can render the new resources.

Historical upstream link check · 2026-10-09

The recorded upstream address responded successfully (HTTP 200) on 2026-10-09. GitHub confirms that helm/charts is archived: this is a historical chart distribution, not evidence that the application itself is retired. Link availability does not certify the historical installation instructions or current security support.

Terracotta DB is a next-generation data management platform supporting hybrid translytical (operational and analytical data processing) workloads including caching and operational storage as well as server-side analytical search and compute capabilities. It provides a single, unified architecture that combines the power and convenience of a non-relational data store with the performance of Software AG’s fastest yet In-Memory data grid technology.

With over 2.1 million developers and 2.5 million deployments worldwide, the Terracotta data management platform is capable of driving even the most demanding real-time applications in use today.
