Project reference ↗

Fn provides a server for running small application functions packaged as containers. A developer deploys a function, and the Fn server starts and manages its execution when called. This is useful when a team wants a functions platform on infrastructure it controls while using container images for its runtime choices. The application project and its old Kubernetes chart have separate compatibility questions, particularly around how function containers are actually launched.

Deployment and operating notes

The recovered link is fnproject/fn-helm. Its README still tells users to initialize Tiller and refers to the former stable nginx-ingress chart. The Fn application README separately documents Docker and Podman prerequisites, including a shared volume for its Unix socket when using Podman or Rancher Desktop. Those application instructions do not establish that the historical Helm chart supports a current Kubernetes cluster or its container runtime.

For an existing deployment, inventory Fn server and CLI versions, function images, registry credentials, routes, resource limits and backing storage. Check how function containers are actually started and what host privileges or runtime sockets the installation requires. Request a supported release and deployment procedure from the project before reusing the historical chart in a new cluster. Rehearse one invocation, timeout, failed function and server restart while preserving durable metadata. If moving to another functions platform, translate the invocation contract and event semantics explicitly. No direct successor, current Helm migration or claim of tested production support is established by this advisory.

Historical upstream link check · 2026-10-09

The recorded upstream address responded successfully (HTTP 200) on 2026-10-09. GitHub does not mark fnproject/fn-helm archived or disabled; this does not establish active maintenance, support or compatibility. Link availability does not certify the historical installation instructions or current security support.

The original record

Historical Kubedex content

Preserved for context. Commands, versions, prices and results below reflect the original research.

The Fn project is an open-source container-native serverless platform that you can run anywhere. Any cloud or on-premise. It’s easy to use, supports every programming language, and is extensible and performant.

With Fn, you deploy your functions to an Fn server which automatically executes and manages them. Each function is executed in a Docker container enabling the platform to provide broad support for development languages including Java, JavaScript (Node), Go, Python, Ruby, and others. The Fn client and server are simple and elegant. You can run the server locally on your laptop, or on a server in your data center or in the cloud. The Fn project has a strong enterprise focus with emphasis on security, scalability, and observability.
