Project reference ↗

IronFunctions provided a platform for invoking application functions packaged as containers on infrastructure a team controlled. It offered a way to separate small units of application work from manually managed, always-running services. Its support for a Lambda-style function format helped with one aspect of portability, but did not reproduce every AWS event or identity integration. This entry is useful for understanding existing functions and their invocation contract before choosing a supported replacement.

Current guidance

This entry identifies iron-io/functions, an open-source functions-as-a-service platform written in Go. Its README describes container-based functions and importing an AWS Lambda-style function format. That format support is not a promise that every Lambda event source, IAM integration or runtime behaves identically.

The repository remains readable, but this review did not establish a supported present-day Kubernetes release matrix, maintained image distribution or official migration successor. Preserve the exact runtime and platform version when investigating an existing installation. Inventory routes, synchronous versus asynchronous calls, queue and database dependencies, timeouts and function image builds before choosing an alternative.

Test a function outside the old platform to identify the HTTP or invocation contract it actually depends on. Then evaluate a replacement function platform or ordinary container deployment against that contract, including retry behavior and duplicate event handling. Separate application data from disposable execution containers and prove recovery of the platform’s persistent state. A new chart or a repository with no archive flag is insufficient evidence of security maintenance or operational equivalence.

Historical upstream link check · 2026-10-09

The recorded upstream address responded successfully (HTTP 200) on 2026-10-09. GitHub does not mark iron-io/functions archived or disabled; this does not establish active maintenance, support or compatibility. Link availability does not certify the historical installation instructions or current security support.
