Samsung CNCT's Jenkins Operator used Kubernetes resources to create and manage Jenkins servers and related configuration, including jobs and credentials. It was useful for teams that wanted those automation servers managed through a controller instead of configuring each instance manually. This entry concerns that specific deprecated operator, not Jenkins itself or every Jenkins operator. Its custom resources and ownership rules must be identified before another controller is introduced.

Current guidance

This entry is Samsung CNCT’s jenkins-operator, identified by the archived incubator chart and its original README preserved by Go Packages. That README explicitly deprecated the controller and recommended considering jenkinsci/kubernetes-operator. The latter project identifies its origin as VirtusLab: the recommendation is evidence of an alternative, not a rename or compatible replacement. The original Samsung repository now returns 404, but its preserved documentation establishes more than an unknown source location.

For an existing installation, identify its custom-resource API groups, controller image and reconciliation rules before uninstalling it. The preserved Samsung documentation uses JenkinsInstance resources in the jenkins.jenkinsoperator.samsung-cnct.github.com API group. Export Jenkins configuration, job definitions and credential references, and determine whether deleting a custom resource also deletes the Jenkins instance or its persistent storage. Do not apply another operator’s CRDs over the old resources without an explicit migration plan.

The Jenkins project’s current Kubernetes installation guide offers a separate way to assess Jenkins deployment requirements. Validate persistent home storage, plugins, controller and agent versions, authentication and backup restoration. Recreate a representative job on a disposable destination before moving production builds. Neither the historical recommendation nor this source review establishes current support for a particular destination version or a tested migration from the Samsung controller.
