Project reference ↗

Routine operational tasks often live in scripts that only a few people know how to run safely. Rundeck turns those procedures into jobs with defined steps, schedules and access rules, giving other team members a controlled way to execute them and inspect results. It is useful for shared operational workflows across target systems. The service holds execution credentials and history, so its permissions, database and job behavior need deliberate management; Kubernetes hosting does not make every underlying script safe to repeat.

Current guidance

It should be evaluated as a service with credentials and permissions to execute those jobs, not as a replacement for Kubernetes’ own scheduler. The historical record points to the archived community incubator/rundeck chart; the application, its plugins and that old package have separate lifecycles.

The Rundeck configuration guide states that the default H2 database is for testing and calls for an external database in production. Plan durable execution history, key storage, plugins and configuration alongside that database. Set the public base URL correctly behind an ingress and replace development authentication with the chosen identity and access-control policy.

Review each job’s target credentials and plugins as part of the execution boundary. Test interrupted jobs, retries and duplicate execution against a disposable target before granting broad production access. Do not turn up Kubernetes replicas and assume they form a supported high-availability Rundeck cluster: edition and clustering requirements need a separate check. Pin the container and plugin versions, rehearse a database restore and inspect job history after upgrades. This review has not validated a chart, entitlement or clustered deployment.

Historical upstream link check · 2026-10-09

The recorded upstream address responded successfully (HTTP 200) on 2026-10-09. GitHub confirms that helm/charts is archived: this is a historical chart distribution, not evidence that the application itself is retired. Link availability does not certify the historical installation instructions or current security support.
