CloudServer lets applications talk to object storage through an S3-compatible interface, using familiar operations to upload, retrieve and list stored objects. Scality's project can be useful as a local endpoint for development and integration tests, or as an interface to configured storage backends. Compatibility must be checked against the operations your application actually uses. A test server that accepts requests is not automatically a durable production storage service.
Deployment and operating notes
The Scality repository identifies CloudServer, formerly S3 Server, as an S3-compatible object-storage server associated with Zenko. Its README still includes old Node.js build prerequisites. This verifies identity and intended use, including development and integration testing, but does not establish a supported current Kubernetes chart or runtime for production adoption.
If the requirement is an S3 test endpoint, list the exact operations the application uses: multipart upload, versioning, signatures, metadata, listing and error behavior can vary across implementations. If the requirement is durable storage, separately evaluate backend persistence, credentials, encryption, failure recovery and support. Preserve both object data and metadata before changing deployments or backing services. Run application-level compatibility tests against the chosen replacement instead of assuming S3 compatibility means full Amazon S3 equivalence. Keep the old endpoint and a reconciliation plan during migration, especially when writes continue. No supported direct successor or automatic object-store conversion was proved by this review.
Historical upstream link check · 2026-10-09
The recorded upstream address responded successfully (HTTP 200) on 2026-10-09. GitHub confirms that helm/charts is archived: this is a historical chart distribution, not evidence that the application itself is retired. Link availability does not certify the historical installation instructions or current security support.
Website availability is separate from project, chart and image support. Use the current guidance and primary sources on this page to assess the distribution.

CloudServer is an open-source Node.js implementation of the Amazon S3 protocol on the front-end and backend storage capabilities to multiple clouds, including Azure and Google.
CloudServer provides a single AWS S3 API interface to access multiple backend data storage both on-premise or public in the cloud.
CloudServer is useful for Developers, either to run as part of a continuous integration test environment to emulate the AWS S3 service locally or as an abstraction layer to develop object storage enabled application on the go.
